The month of August will have an increase in power accounts due to the triggering of the Red Tarifaria Flag on the highest level, the 2, announced on Friday (25) the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). As a result, consumers will have an extra cost of $ 7.87 per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) consumed.
According to the agency, the adoption of the flag on level 2, after having triggered the level 1 in June and Julyoccurred in the face of the below average rainfall scenario throughout the country, which reduced the hydroelectric generation.
“The scenario of below average affluency across the country reduces generation through hydroelectric dams. This picture raises the costs of power generation due to the need to activate more expensive sources, such as thermoelectric plants,” said Aneel.
In MayAneel called the yellow flag due to the low volume of rainfall due to the transition from the rainy season to the dry period of the year. In addition, rainfall and flow forecasts in the reservoir regions for the coming months were below average.

Since December 2024, the tariff flag remained green because of the favorable conditions of power generation in the country. According to the agency, the change occurred due to the reduction of rainfall, with the transition from the rainy season to the dry period of the year.
“With the triggering of the Patamar 2 Red Flag, Aneel reinforces the importance of awareness and responsible use of electricity. Energy saving also contributes to the preservation of natural resources and the sustainability of the electricity sector as a whole,” the regulatory agency warned.
Tariff flags
Created in 2015 by Aneel, the tariff flag system reflects the variable costs of electricity generation. Divided into levels, the flags indicate how much it is costing to the National Interconnected System (SIN) generate the energy used in homes, commercial establishments and industries.
When the electricity bill is calculated by the green flag, there is no increase. When the red or yellow flags are applied, the account is increased by every 100 kWh consumed. In the yellow flag, the increase is $ 1.885 per 100 kWh consumed.
The red flag has two levels. In the first, the fare is additional to $ 4,463 for every 100 kWh consumed. In level 2, the value goes to $ 7,877 per 100 kWh consumed.
