Lifting sanctions does not help Maduro: US Ambassador to Colombia

The United States Ambassador to Colombia, Philip Goldbergreferred to the decision made by the Government of Joe Biden to temporarily lift sanctions that it had on Venezuela with the aim of promoting the negotiations held the Venezuelan opposition with Chavismo.

For Goldberg, the decision will not result in any kind of “aid to (Nicolás) Maduro” but “it is a way of trying to agree on policies with President (Juan) Guaidó” all with the aim of achieving restart the talks that were paused in Mexico.

Although no proper names were mentioned, Goldberg added that this decision also demonstrates the “intent to help a North American company and at the same time that the negotiations return” to reach a “political solution”.

Under this decision, one of the most benefited will be US oil company Chevronwhich has also been affected by the sanctions in place in Venezuela but which will now allow talks and negotiations to resume with the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA.
