MIAMI, United States. — Two Pakistani citizens who raped a young Cuban woman in Greece last year were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in that country, the newspaper reported. Greek City Times.
The rape occurred on January 14, 2022 when the victim and her partner were taken at gunpoint to an abandoned house in an uninhabited area of the Kilkis municipality.
According to the report, the court unanimously found the defendants guilty, without acknowledging any mitigating circumstances.
Two of the attackers were sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 16 and a half years, while the third was sentenced to 21 years and six months in prison for robbery and complicity in rape.
During the trial, the first of the three defendants admitted to the act of robbery, while denying the rape. The second defendant denied any involvement in the case and said that he did not need to steal, as he had money. For his part, the third party admitted in court that he had sexual relations with the 26-year-old girl, but he stated that he did so with the consent and desire of the victim, denying the rape.
The Cubans had entered illegally that same January 14, 2022 through the Greek border from North Macedonia and walked to the hotel where they would stay in Kilkis.
The version collected by Greek City Times he recounts that the three Pakistanis met them on the road and after parking their car on an adjacent dirt road, they came out armed with pistols and drove them to a nearby deserted spot. Then, after taking all of her belongings, including money, mobile phones and passports, they forcibly grabbed the 26-year-old and took her to the abandoned house where they raped her.
“My partner realized what was happening and tried to react, even though he was at gunpoint, then one of them hit him over the head with a wooden bat.”
The Cuban couple decided to move on immediately after, after being released by the attackers.
“My partner and I just hugged each other and decided that we should continue on our way to get to the hotel and meet my mother,” the young woman testified.
The victim’s partner stated that after the incident they continued on their way to Polikastro. The next day they saw the perpetrators outside the hotel where they were staying and together with their compatriots they managed to immobilize one, until the police arrived to arrest them.
