The psychologist Lidia Papaleo, widow of banker David Graiver, recalled the day she spoke with Judge Julián Ercolini, who was in charge of the case that investigated the appropriation of Papel Prensa SA, and assured that the CEO of Grupo Clarín, Héctor Magnetto told him to “sign those papers” from the company session because “his life and that of his daughter” depended on it..
In dialogue with El Destape Radio, Papaleo detailed the process of appropriation of Papel Prensa SA, where after the death of Graiver, who had acquired the company in 1973, “a representative came and offered my brother-in-law (Isidoro Graiver). negotiations began.”
And he added: “We went to a meeting with the newspaper La Nación in Florida. A man stood next to me and told me: ‘sign those papers because that is what your life and that of your daughter is about.’ eyes, I knew that he was telling the truth and I knew that they were the eyes of someone who had no limits, of a person who was totally convinced of what he was doing”.
That man “was Magnetto. That was the only time I was with him,” he said.
Papaleo also recounted that “David was killed in an accident that was shown not to be such” in August 1976, during the last civic-military dictatorship and that “they did not allow me to see him because women could not go.”
Later, she was detained and disappeared for State terrorism: “I spent six parties inside the jail waiting to get out to be with my family and to be able to tell the truth,” she said.
“Because of the blows I had in jail, a brain tumor was generated,” added Papaleo, and explained that they took her “tortured and burned at four in the morning.”
The case around the appropriation of Papel Prensa was in charge of Judge Ercolini.
“I went to declare with Julián Ercolini and his secretaries attended me”Papaleo said.
Later, “a very skinny man came up to me and said: “Ma’am, I’m so sorry because you and I are under pressure.” And I told him: “Are you the judge and are you under pressure?” That was Mr. Ercolini”, he detailed.
In 2016, Ercolini dismissed Héctor Magnetto and the other defendants for the alleged appropriation of Papel Prensa and the decision was confirmed in 2017 by the Buenos Aires Federal Chamber.
