This standardizes the ownership charge in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, which is expected to lead more people to park their vehicles in the capital.
Throughout 2026, residents of the capital will be able to apply for a permanent driver’s license, the cost of which remains at 1,500 pesos.
Tax payments are generally increased by 3.91% to update for expected inflation.
Discounts for 2026 in CDMX
For property, the possibility of updating will be offered to those who have debts from previous years for properties in ranges A, B, C and D, that is, with a cadastral value of up to one million 410,569 pesos.
The owners will be able to settle their debt from previous years with a single payment of 1,000 pesos in the case of homes and 2,000 pesos when they are small businesses, as long as they make the 2026 property tax payment.
Those who have properties with a higher value will also receive a discount on fines and surcharges on debts from previous years. All taxpayers will be able to pay the 2026 property tax with a discount of 8% in January and 5% in February.
For the payment of the right to supply drinking water, 100% of the fines and surcharges will be deducted from people who want to pay their debts.
In traffic violations for drivers for non-serious acts, people may receive discounts of up to 90%, as well as exemption from updates and surcharges.
How much will procedures cost in CDMX by 2026?
Some of the procedures before the Civil Registry will have the following costs:
- Birth registration and recognition: 512 pesos
- Wedding celebration: 3,319 pesos
For the vehicle procedures individualsthese will be the costs:
- Permit to circulate for up to 30 days: 297 pesos
- Replacement or endorsement of circulation card: 433 pesos
- Change of ownership: 433 pesos
- Vehicle cancellation: 590 pesos
- Sticker replacement: 297 pesos
For motorcycles and scootersthese will be the costs.
- Registration that includes issuance of license plate and registration card: 709 pesos
- Endorsement for annual license plate validity: 472 pesos
The driver’s licenses They will have different costs and the option of processing the permanent license remains available, while the rest of the options are valid for three years:
- Type A (permanent) for private vehicles: 1,500 pesos
- Type A for private vehicles: 1,142 pesos
- Type A1 for driving motorcycles: 572 pesos
- Type A2 for driving private vehicles and motorcycles: 1,142
Authorities in CDMX will monitor evaders
One of the changes to the Tax Code 2026 is that now the Government of Mexico City will be able to apply the “presumptive determination” in accordance with articles 76 and 77, according to which the capital authorities will monitor the level of income and tax payment of a taxpayer and will be able to register or update obligated subjects in registers based on the information they possess or that is provided by authorized third parties.
“The authority will notify the taxpayer of said registration or update, granting them a period of fifteen business days to express what is appropriate to their right,” indicates Article 73.
