Three councilors of the National Party of Montevideo requested in the Departmental Board to extend the opening hours of bars, restaurants, pubs and the like until 3:30 in the morning taking into account the opening of the border that began on November 1 and the finals of the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores, male and female.
“In the next weeks of November, our city will receive about 60,000 tourists for the Libertadores and Sudamericana finals, so it is an excellent time to allow gastronomic establishments the possibility of working longer hours, providing more and better services to tourists. and recover from the impact of the covid“, say the councilors of Espacio 40 Fabián Bravetti, Rafael Seijas and Rafael Rondán in the note delivered to the President of the Board, Sandra Nedov.

The councilors described as “unfair” the determination that the bars should close at 2:00 in the morning while the dance venues can be extended until 5:00. “It is not logical with the health reality and the health risks of both activities, so it is not common sense to continue to maintain the restriction of operation until 2:00“
In turn, another request is to extend the hours of floorboards, tables, and chairs outside the premises. The proposal is that from Sunday to Wednesday at the time they can be until 1:00 in the following morning, on Thursdays until 2:00 and on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of non-working holidays at 3:30. In turn, they asked as an exceptional measure that, during the summer, from Sunday to Wednesday it is also possible to have chairs and tables outside until 2:00.
The current regulation determines that from Sunday to Thursday they are allowed until 1:00 in the morning and on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of non-working holidays they could be maintained until 2:30
“It should be taken into account that we are entering a time of year that is characterized by a warmer climate, in which more use can be made of the tables and chairs that bars, pubs and restaurants place in open spaces, thereby reducing the chances of contagion“, summarized the councilors in the note.
