Leyva ratifies that Colombia will withdraw lawsuit against Maduro at the ICC

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Álvaro Leyva, stated that the nation of New Granada will seek to withdraw the lawsuit filed, during the management of Iván Duque; against the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking to Colombian radio W Radius, Leyva stated that he would be in favor of withdrawing this complaint in order to reestablish relations with the neighboring country and achieve total peace between the two nations.

“Within normalization, it is necessary to review an initiative that was taken by other governments, at other times and from other perspectives, in such a way that it would not surprise me if, at the time, with the necessary clarity on many aspects that are being solved, comes the need to withdraw it,” Leyva said.

For the Colombian foreign minister, what was done with Venezuela “was outrageous”, taking into account that “in all the countries of the world in conflict the existence of a State has never been denied”, while between Colombia and the neighboring country the existence of a State has never been denied. there was communication.

It should be remembered that Venezuela and Colombia broke off relations, due to the constant participation of Iván Duque in the destabilizing plans against the homeland, and the attacks against President Nicolás Maduro.

However, after Petro took office, all the work was done to restore relations, which began with the appointment of the respective ambassadors for both nations, as well as assigning the border to reopen on September 26.

With these statements, Leyva confirms the words of the Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, who pointed out that the Petro government intends to withdraw the lawsuit against the Venezuelan head of state.

“I think so, what Duque did was a mistake in foreign relations,” the ambassador told an international media outlet when asked about the issue.
