Leyanis Pérez wins her first Diamond League

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The Cuban triple jumper Leyanis Perez won the Diamond League for the first time, with a jump of 14.37 meters, this Friday, September 13, as confirmed by the official website of the competence.

Although she fell short of her goal of clearing 15 metres, she was the undisputed leader of the day in Brussels, Belgium, during the women’s triple jump final, and took home the Diamond Trophy.

Leyanis Pérez surpassed Shanieka Ricketts, world number 1 and Olympic runner-up, whose best jump was 14.22 meters.

The Cuban has dethroned the queen of the last three Diamond Leagues, Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, who was Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, seven-time world champion, and current world record holder.

In the last editions (2021, 2022 and 2023) of the League she emerged victorious but could not participate in the 2024 edition due to an Achilles tendon injury.

At the end of August, Perez She placed second on Sunday at the twelfth stop of the Diamond League in Sielesia, Poland. The athlete reached the position by landing the spikes at a distance of 14.42 meters.

On that occasion, the event was dominated by the silver medalist at the Paris 2024 summer event, Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts, who stretched to 14.50, while third place went to Italian Dariya Derkack with 14.02.

On June 23, Leyanis Pérez also surpassed the 15-meter barrier at the international meeting in Guadalajara, Spain.
