The Polish striker Robert Lewandowski had a dream debut this Sunday with the Barcelona shirt at the Camp Nou, participating with a goal and two assists, both to Pedri, in the 6-0 thrashing of Xavi Hernández’s team against the Mexican Pumas in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Lewandowski, who failed to make his debut as a scorer in the three games of the American tour with Barça, only needed 2 minutes and 36 seconds to open the scoring in the Barça fiefdom with a move in which he got rid of the goalkeeper, Julio González, and then, practically without angle and with a subtle touch, he slipped the ball through the far post.

The 33-year-old, after the goal, headed towards the Camp Nou side and crossed his arms, a customary celebration of his, before his team-mates came up behind to join in a pineapple.

But this goal was just the icing on the cake of his contribution in the game against Dani Alves’s Pumas. When the match reached the 18th minute, Lewandowski had already added two assists to Pedri to his goal, the second of them with a heel that lifted the ‘culers’ fans from their seats. Before, he had given him a previous pass in the area so that the canary was left alone before the goalkeeper.

In addition, shortly after the Pole could have scored his second goal of the night, but his shot to the center of Ousmane Dembélé crashed into the right post of the goal. At all times, Lewandowski was active and had no qualms about giving orders to his teammates despite just joining the team.

In fact, this facet of his was revealed in the interviews he gave to the Polish media on Friday, the day of his presentation at the Camp Nou. Lewandowski, with the soul of a leader, likes to give indications about things that he considers the team can improve, both in training and in games.

Thus, it was usual against Pumas to see him commenting on things with his teammates, especially with Dembélé, Raphinha and Pedri, the three with whom he combined the most in the attacking zone, and show them with his hands the specific place where he wanted the ball to reach him when it unchecked.

Already in the second half, Lewandowski was the one who originated the fifth Barça goal with an inside pass to another signing from this summer, Franck Kessié, who put it with precision to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so that he finished off goal at close range.

In the 60th minute, Xavi replaced him already thinking about the League, which for Barça will start next Saturday against Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou. Lewandowski has all the numbers to start as a starting center forward.
