On International Workers’ Day, the political party Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos) denounced that the Daniel Ortega regime has violated the social rights of Nicaraguan workers.
“Since coming to power, the Ortega Murillo family have violated the social rights of workers and free union organization. In the last four years —since 2018—, clinging to power and through the use of force, repression and crime have plunged Nicaragua into a deep political, social and human rights crisis,” said the opposition bloc.

He refers that the Nicaraguan dictatorship has increased unemployment, depreciated real wages and reduced pensions, “without resolving the virtual bankruptcy of the finances of the Nicaraguan Institute of Social Security, leading to the dispossession of acquired rights to retired people and pensioners”.
“The political, economic and social crisis falls mainly on the workers and the poorest,” says the Unamos statement; and explains that to confront and solve extreme poverty, the cost of living and serious social problems, it goes through the departure of the Ortega regime and the transition to democracy.
According to this political structure —previously MRS— they aspire to a democratic Nicaragua, “in which workers, without distinction of political colors, have decent job opportunities, with guaranteed social security, with occupational safety and hygiene, with full rights to organize and of expression.

“Our commitment is to fight for a Nicaragua with freedoms, in which there is employment and entrepreneurship opportunity for every Nicaraguan. A country without unemployment and without poverty, with opportunities and comprehensive progress and the dignity of workers, both in the countryside and in the city, and of state workers, who currently suffer the humiliation, control and blackmail of the dictatorship» , concluded Unite.
Ortega does not provide a solution for the country’s economic crisis
Unamos’ demand comes hours after the dictator Daniel Ortega greeted the workers of Nicaragua, assuring that his regime respects their rights, however, it did not give a solution to the economic problems that the country is experiencing and where the value of the basic basket exceeds the 16 thousand cordobas.
“We salute all Nicaraguan workers (…) To the extent that the country, in these adverse conditions, manages to maintain itself and manages to develop programs to benefit workers, they can receive them with all rights,” said the dictator during the commemoration of the 10 years for the death of Tomás Borge, on Saturday night, April 30.
“We will continue to respect the rights of workers. From health, which is an elementary right, to education, to work. Efforts must be multiplied in these times, which are enormous challenges », he stressed, however he kept silent that recently his regime “swept” with more than 30 workers of the extinct Upoli.
Workers’ Day is commemorated every May 1 at the international level, where in many countries citizens take to the streets to demand better conditions, however in Nicaragua the only ones who celebrate are the supporters of the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front, because the opposition is prohibited and criminalized any concentration.
