Let's lower the cost of living, says Lula

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated, on Wednesday (5), that it will lower the cost of living in the country and that the basic food basket will be more accessible to the Brazilian people. In an interview with radios in Minas Gerais, Lula said the government “takes inflation very seriously and that it is” reasonably controlled. “Let's lower the cost of living, says Lula

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), over the last year the food and drink group was the one that most pressed the pockets of Brazilians. In 2024, the official inflation of the country closed at 4.83%.

“We take[a inflação] Very seriously and I think it’s reasonably controlled, ”he said. “We are aware that we will lower inflation, we are aware that we will lower the cost of living, and we are aware that the basic basket will be more accessible to the Brazilian people, because that is what the people need, cheap food from Quality at the table, and the entire government is working with it, ”said the president.

President Lula agrees that there are certain high -priced foods, and said the government has been systematically dialogue with the productive and distribution sectors to find a solution for the cheap of products.

“For example, the meat is very tall, we have other products that are high and we need to discuss with the sectors why these prices have grown so much from 12 months here? Because the truth is that by 2023 the meat fell 30% and then it rose again. There is no single factor that shows the price of things. What we need is to try to adjust, because inflation causes a lot of damage to the working people, ”he said.

Lula also commented on the government’s concern with the impact of increasing fuel prices. THE Petrobras recently announced readjustments in the value of the liter of diesel oilwhich accumulates price lag because of the dollar over the last few months.

“We are arguing to know the following, how we make compensation when you have a readjustment where this readjustment can impact on transportation price and transportation impact on food price.”

Ministerial reform

The President gave an interview to the radios Itatiaia, Better world and BandNewsFM BHall from Minas Gerais, who questioned him about the possible indication of Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) to be minister. Pacheco is also quoted to be the PT base candidate for the Minas Gerais government in 2026.

Lula said he is not in a hurry to make any renovation, but he wants to “adjust the pieces we have to change.” The PSD, the government’s ally, already has three ministries on the Esplanada, Minas and Energy, with Alexandre Silveira; Agriculture and Livestock, with Carlos Fávaro; and Tourism, with Celso Sabino.

The president assured that, at least Silveira will be in office. “There is no reason to move into a thing that is doing a revolution in the Brazilian energy sector and the mines sector of that country,” he said, praising the minister.

About the other ministries, Lula said he will argue with the PSD and other allied parties about any changes.
