Less than a month after its inauguration, the Matías Ramón Mella provincial hospital in Dajabón presents visible signs of deterioration in its physical plant, a situation that has caused concern and indignation among citizens who went this Monday to the health center, recently enabled to offer medical consultations.
During the day it was possible to verify the efficiency and willingness of the health personnel in caring for patients. However, satisfaction with the opening of the service was dampened by the structural conditions of the enclosure.
From the main entrance of the hospital center are observed holes and unfinished details in the outdoor infrastructure. Likewise, in the hallway where the consultation area operates, perforations and damage to walls and finishes are evident.
Added to these failures is the accumulation of a large amount of garbage in the hospital’s backyard, as well as exposed openings in the septic steps and filters, which represents a health risk and projects an image of abandonment in a recently delivered work.
Premature deterioration
Rafael Cruz, a resident of the province, expressed his indignation given what he considers a premature deterioration. “It is not possible that without having begun to operate in its entirety it already has these flaws. That is worrying because we are talking about a new work,” he said.

In that same vein he spoke Ana Reciowho described the situation as “a total disaster“and requested that a investigation to determine responsibilities. Recio also pointed out that, until now, the authorities of Dajabón They have remained silent in the face of the reported situation.
The opening of consultations represents an important step for the province, which for years has demanded improvements in the services of health. However, the current physical and sanitary conditions of the hospital center have raised questions about the quality of the construction and the supervision of the work.
So far, no official statements have been offered explaining the noted deterioration for the citizens.
