This Monday, the 15th the slaughter of cattle in the slaughterhouses in Uruguay was almost normal, since there was only one inactive plant (see below), after a lifting of the control measures that was applied at zero hour on Saturday the 13th by the Workers’ Federation of the Meat and Related Industry (Foica), after the 24-hour strike last Friday and others that occurred during the week.

All this happened prior to a new negotiation instance, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday 16, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), with the director of labor (Federico Daverede) as mediator between the workers represented. by the aforementioned union and the representatives of the business chambers.

No activity in Frigoyi

Martín Cardozo, president of the Foica, explained to The Observer that this Monday there was a normal task in all the industrial complexes (more than 30), except in the case of Frigoyi (in Durazno).

In that plant “there was a particular situation, the company decided to summon unaffiliated personnel and the rest did not, the other unionized sectors did not agree with this measure of the company, a way of understanding was sought but no agreement was reached agreement and although there was no planned task, it was not boned, it was not worked; let’s hope tomorrow (Tuesday) improve that situation because the spirit is to go to the Salary Council without any measure, “he explained.

Cardozo, on how is the negotiation between workers and businessmen, indicated that “there is an agreement on the economic front, but not on the deadlines; we hope that this Tuesday there will be a response in that sense from the business chambers.”

Regarding possible measures to be applied in case there is no agreement, the president of Foica explained that given the changes that occurred after the approval of the Urgent Consideration Law (LUC), the union’s methodology was modified, which no longer warns the business community about strikes, whether partial or total: “For example, we cannot occupy the area of an access gate as before, therefore we do not warn about strikes,” he said.

In the event that there is no agreement after the meeting on Tuesday, a dialogue at the plenary level will be activated via zoom with the unions that make up the Foica to see what is done and when.
