Doctors who operated on US President Joe Biden last month said on Friday (03.03.2023) that a removed skin lesion was a common form of skin cancer that does not require further treatment.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, a White House physician, said in a statement that Biden underwent surgery on February 16 during a routine physical.

All the cancerous tissue was removed “successfully,” added the president’s doctor, who also explained that the entire affected area has been treated with “electrodessication,” which consists of drying the tissues with high frequency.

“No further treatment is necessary,” the statement added.

The president is “healthy, vigorous” and “fit”

After another routine physical, O’Connor deemed the 80-year-old president “healthy, vigorous” and “fit” to carry out his White House responsibilities.

The announcement comes weeks before Biden launches a long-awaited 2024 re-election bid.

O’Connor said the basal cell carcinoma removal site on Biden’s chest has “healed well” and the president will continue part of his routine health plan.

Basal cell cancers are one of the most common and easily treatable types of cancer, especially when caught early. O’Connor said they don’t tend to spread like other cancers, but they can get bigger, which is why they’re removed.
