How did it come about?
The commemoration of the Lesbian Visibility Day was promoted in 2008, by the LGBTQI+ collective in Spain, with the aim of raising awareness about the rights of the lesbian population.

World and human rights organizations agree that lesbian women face double discrimination, as they belong to two social groups that have been historically hit by stigma, lack of equity and accusations.
“Lesbian women make up a group that suffers double discrimination, the first because of their gender and the second because of the stigma associated with their sexual orientation,” says UN Women.
Despite socio-cultural advances, much remains to be done, “discriminatory stereotypes, cultural norms and attitudes that normalize and trivialize violence against women and girls continue to prevail throughout the world” even more so when they do not follow the line of heteronormative preferences .
According to data from the investigation on Attention to LGBT People in Mexico, it is estimated that 7 out of 10 lesbian or gay people have suffered some type of discrimination.
