Leonor Oyarzún Ivanovic, widow of the former President of the Republic and founder of the Christian Democracy (DC) Patricio Aylwin Azócar (1990-1994), died at the age of 102.
The death of the first woman to occupy the position of first lady after the return of democracy after the plebiscite that ended the dictatorship (1973-1990), occurred in the house where she lived since 1956 in Providencia. Leonor Oyarzún died at her home, where she is being watched.
She was born on March 10, 1919 in the city of Temuco, being the eldest of the six daughters of the marriage of Manuel Oyarzún and Ana Ivanovic. In 1948 she married Patricio Aylwin Azócar, with whom she had five children.
During the presidency of Eduardo Frei Montalva (1964-1970), she was one of the founders and first vice president of CEMA Chile. In those years he entered the Carlos Casanueva Institute, where he graduated in Family and Youth Orientation.
In 1990 she became the first lady of the return to democracy, a position to which she integrated her professional experience. In this position, he transformed the National Foundation for Community Assistance (Funaco), created during the dictatorship, into the National Foundation for the Integral Development of Minors (Integra), oriented towards initial education.
It also implemented the Program for the Promotion of Women (Prodemu) and created the Family Foundation.
One of his last public appearances was during the May 2021 elections in which conventional constituents, regional governors, mayors and councilors were elected.
