Santo Domingo.– The president of the party Fuerza del Pueblo, Leonel Fernández, established this Wednesday a clear, firm and principled position regarding the events taking place in Venezuelawhile calling to avoid any escalation of violence and to prioritize dialogue as a way to achieve lasting peace.
In a speech broadcast on radio, television and digital media, Fernández addressed the recent military operation by the United States in Venezuelan territory, emphasizing that it is a fact “that still continues in the process of evolution and development,” and reiterated that, from the Force of the People, the need to prevent any bloodshed that directly affects the Venezuelan people is supported.
The Dominican opposition leader maintained that the only sustainable solution to the crisis is through understanding among Venezuelans themselves., through consensus mechanisms that allow reestablishing democratic coexistence and creating conditions for social and economic progress.
“We hope that through dialogue and the search for consensusa lasting peace can be reached that guarantees civilized coexistence among its citizens, a fundamental premise for progress and well-being,” he expressed.
Fernandez recalled that the most recent turning point of the Venezuelan crisis was marked by the questioning of the legitimacy of the presidential elections of July 28, 2024a process in which he participated as an international electoral observer.
In this context, protected by technical and legal criteria, adopted with impartiality and after consultations with international bodies specializedsuggested the need to scrutinize the minutes by table and voting center before naming a candidate as the winner.
“We considered that the victory of the ruling party’s candidate could not be proclaimed, because the tally sheets had not been presented,” he said.
He explained that this conclusion was reached after exchanges with the panel of electoral experts of the United Nations, representatives of the Carter Center and with the former foreign minister of Brazil, Celso Amorín.
As a result of this analysis, Fernandez He noted that he recommended placing a genuine political dialogue between Venezuelans at the center of the national debate.
“This proposal seeks to offer a path to peacereconciliation and political stability in Venezuela, and we hope that it can be accepted and supported as a pragmatic and effective initiative to avoid new confrontations that impede development economic and social of society Venezuelan,” he said.
With his exhibition, Fernandez marked distance from the position assumed by the current government of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), which has limited itself to pointing out that “the Dominican Government closely follows the evolution of events in Venezuela”, without establishing a substantive position based on principles of sovereignty and international law.
“We clarify this because while from our government ranks an alleged defense of democracy is accentuated, without reference to related principles and values with sovereignty, territorial integrity and free determination of the peoples, we have assumed it, with responsibility and integrity, from the very genesis of the conflict,” he declared.
