Leonel Fernández calls for dialogue and consensus to avoid violence in Venezuela

Santo Domingo.– The president of the Fuerza del Pueblo partyLeonel Fernandez, He called to avoid any escalation of violence in Venezuela and to prioritize dialogue and consensus as the only way to achieve lasting peace and guarantee the well-being of the Venezuelan people.

In a speech broadcast on radio, television and digital media, Fernández referred to the events that country is going through, pointing out that the situation is constantly evolving and reiterating the need to prevent any bloodshed.

He argued that the solution to the Venezuelan crisis must arise from understanding among Venezuelans themselves, through consensus mechanisms that allow for the restoration of democratic coexistence and the creation of conditions for social and economic progress.

Fernández recalled that the most recent critical point of the crisis occurred after the presidential elections of July 28, 2024, in which he participated as an international observer.

He indicated that, from a technical and legal perspective, a winner could not be proclaimed without the presentation of the tally sheets by polling station and voting center.

He explained that this position was adopted after consultations with the United Nations panel of electoral experts, representatives of the Carter Center and former Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, concluding in the need to promote a genuine political dialogue between Venezuelans.

According to him, this proposal seeks to open a path towards peace, reconciliation and political stability in Venezuela, avoiding new confrontations that hinder the economic and social development of the country.

Fernández stressed that all disputes must be resolved in accordance with international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principles that recognize Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, warning about the risks that current tensions represent for the region.

He reiterated his call for common sense, tolerance and dialogue, with the hope that peace, justice and democracy can be restored in Venezuela.
