In the evaluation of the candidate for President of the Republic by the Popular Unit (UP), Léo Péricles, there is a lack of efficient public policies aimed at combating sexual violence against women and children in Brazil. He also considers that existing laws have not been fully implemented.
The candidate addressed the issue today (13) on social media when he lamented the rape of an 11-year-old girl in Teresina, who is pregnant for the second time. At the age of 10, the girl had already been a victim of rape and gave birth to a baby, now nine months old. The case is monitored by the Guardianship Council and, as it involves a child, is being processed in secret at the Piauí Court of Justice (TJPI).
“The girl’s father informed that the family does not intend to request the legal abortion of the second pregnancy, even if it is allowed by the court. sexual abuse of victims under 14 years old”, notes a note released by the Piauí section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), which also monitors the situation.
“We continue in the fight for a more just society, where women and children do not have their bodies treated as mere objects. Children are not mothers. Rapists are not fathers”, wrote Léo Péricles.
Data from the most recent edition of the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, published in June, points out that at least 30,500 girls up to 13 years old were raped in 2021. According to the UP candidate, the law that allows abortion in these cases has not been properly applied. .
