Revolutionizing what it means to be a woman in Mexico requires a political-feminist pact from the highest spheres of power and to every corner of the country. This pact requires, among other things, that the government dedicate an adequate amount of resources to have childcare centers, to monitor the implementation of the labor law and to promote gender equality in all spheres of economic life.
However, women legislators are not working for women, but for their own interests. For the fourth consecutive year, a 2022 Expenditure Budget is about to be approved, which contains blatant lies towards women and the feminist struggle. The 2022 budget lies about the amount of money that will be spent promoting equality between men and women, and no legislator has had the courage to face it.
The lie is evident and is in the eyes of whoever wants to see it in this document and described historically in the chapter entitled “Glass slide” of my most recent book #It is not normal .
Legislators tell us that they will spend 232 billion pesos to promote equality between men and women in 2022, but in reality that budget is not for that, but for the generic social programs that exist in Mexico. For example, 55% of that budget is actually the pension for the elderly and another 19% are the Benito Juárez scholarships granted by López Obrador.
In an open lie, the legislators of all parties want us to believe that they are feminists, when they are not. If they were, they would publicly question why the Expenditure Budget 2022 is counting as programs to promote gender equality absurd items such as “supervision of nuclear and technological activities”, “planning of tourism policy” and even “activities administrative support of Pemex ”.
