Legislative Committee leaves 5,000 judicial candidates out of the process

Legislative Committee leaves 5,000 judicial candidates out of the process

“They are only those who have suitability (sic) (they moved them to the next stage), it is not approximately 10 thousand, a little more than 5 thousand people,” indicated Ana Patricia Briseño, member of the Committee.

In a conference, Briseño specified that only those who passed the suitability filter will participate in the interview cycle, which began on Monday.

He commented that the interviews are divided into two: face-to-face, which will be held from January 14 to 19 and will be for the positions of minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, magistrates of the Disciplinary Court and the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, as well as administrative magistrates of the first circuit.

And virtual, which will be from January 20 to 24 and are for the positions of magistrates in the regional chambers of the Electoral and Circuit Court, and District judges.

The interviews last between 11 and 12 minutes, in which participants answer questions about the assignment they are applying for. Subsequently, the Committee evaluates this process based on four points: technical-legal knowledge, demonstrated experience, proposals for the justice delivery system and communication, leadership and humanism.

“The interview qualification is added to all previous analysis processes to determine the best qualified people for next January 31. At the end of each interview, each person issues their qualification, their observations and their signature and the results are integrated into the evaluation system of the entire process,” said Maribel Díaz.

Once this evaluation phase has been completed, the Committee must present a list of the 10 people best evaluated for each position for minister, magistrate of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court and magistrate of the Disciplinary Court, as well as six candidates for each position for Circuit magistrate and District judges.

These people will go to the third phase, in which an insaculation or tombola process will be carried out to “adjust” the number of applicants for each position, since there must be three candidates for each position for minister of the SCJN, for magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) and for the Disciplinary Court, and two more will be for Circuit magistrates and District judges.
