The former governor of Nuevo León Jaime Rodríguez The Bronco He lived up to his nickname and in a rude and threatening manner told his ex-wife, Adalina Dávalos Martínez: “He’s going to screw you, you bastard, you’re stealing from me, I’m going to put you in prison or I’m going to kill you.”
This is how she remembers it and this is how she reported him for gender violence in a civil and criminal legal dispute that is just beginning and that seems to be long, considering that they have four children in common and a long list of distribution of assets and properties generated during their relationship of more than 20 years.
Frightened by the violence of her ex-partner, Adalina now lives with protection measures that were granted to her by a judge for 60 days, after presenting opinions and evidence, advised and supported by the secretary of the Women of Nuevo León, Graciela Buchanan Ortega and by Erika Irigoyen Arroyo, attorney for the defense of women’s rights: “Adalina already has lawyers, but we are supporting her. Our motto is: “te “We listen, we believe you and we accompany you. We offer therapeutic and psychological support so that they can move forward. Violence is a cycle and many women cannot leave it, and when the aggressors are public figures it is more difficult,” she said in an interview with The Day.
Adalina and Jaime divorced last February and everything seemed to be going well, until she, her children and her sister Corina arrived on November 2 at their house located in the municipality of García, a property with more than 8 thousand square meters.
The problem arose when Jaime, allegedly drunk, became angry with his sister-in-law and attacked her, throwing her to the ground and accusing her of theft of property, jewelry and cash: “Now, please, leave her, go away, you’re drunk, you already hit her,” Adalina complained before calling 911, but he warned them before leaving: “This is not going to stay like this, they are going to remember me.”
Adalina assures that she has videos and audios that she recorded with her daughter Valentina’s cell phone, who also witnessed the events. After that, both filed complaints under investigation folders 130725/2025 and 140458/2025; He for dispossession of the house that he says is in his name and he inherited it to his children, but he claims that he now enjoys usufruct of the property, and she for violence and threats.
Break the silence
Adalina breaks down in tears when she remembers the moments of psychological, patrimonial and economic violence that she has experienced with her ex-husband. Her love story began when the two families lived together and when she was a preschool teacher in the municipality of García where The Bronco He was mayor. Also through his mother, María Teresa Martínez Galván, with whom he interacted in the field of politics, an activity that his family always liked. They were both divorced.
Jaime Heliodoro Rodríguez Calderón The Bronco He was married three times and has seven children. His first wife was María Eugenia Gutiérrez, with whom he had two children: Zoraida and Jaime Lizenco, who died in October 2009. His second marriage was with Silvia Mireya González Martínez, with whom he had his daughter Jimena. And in 2006 he married Adalina, with whom he had three children: Valentina, 18, Victoria, 14, and Emiliano, 13; and adopted Alejandro, currently 20 years old, his wife’s son.
It is not the first time that The Bronco He is accused of family violence. His ex-wife Silvia Mireya declared in 2015 that she was a victim of his attacks in 2003, after the politician declared in his electoral campaign that he had “never” attacked a woman. “He’s lying, that’s precisely why I divorced him, he hit me in front of my daughter Jimena. I couldn’t allow my daughter to see something like that because it’s against her upbringing.”
He added: “I remember exactly where we were, my daughter was at the top of the stairs, I was going down the stairs and he was leaving the kitchen, and because of some gossip, because it wasn’t true, precisely because it wasn’t true, that’s why I got divorced. For me, a man who hits a woman, at that moment he stops being a man, simply and simply, that easy. I think he must be man enough to answer the truth, ask him. He has to tell the truth and if he doesn’t tell it He, I’m going to say it again.”
Behavior pattern
10 years have passed since Silvia’s complaint against Rodríguez Calderón and now Adalina confirms that the former governor is a violent man: “For many years I remained silent in the face of a series of actions of violence, control and devaluation that were exercised against me within the marriage. That silence was not indifference, it was the result of living under the weight of intimidation, fear and power,” she said in a statement.
Adalina clarified that the fight with her ex-husband is not about a house: “He decided to end the marriage bond, but not the moral, emotional and patrimonial responsibilities that arise from having formed a family. Reducing this situation to a dispute over a house is a way of erasing the context of abandonment and violence that my children and I have faced, and that today I have to sustain with the same strength that I silently carried for years.”
She considers that her ex-husband prefers to “hide assets” than recognize the consequences of his actions: “I have decided to end the silence not only for myself, but for my children.”
Now calmer after the whirlwind of what happened, Adalina hopes that the authorities will resolve according to the law and agree with whoever it may be: “I have not slept the last three days writing everything I have experienced during these years of marriage. I reported him for threats and violence and my sister reported him for attacks. I have the videos that will eventually be taken into account as evidence by the authorities.”
He comments that his sister suffered mild facial paralysis after the altercation. In the complaint, her sister states that Rodríguez Calderón knocked her to the floor, causing injuries to her hands, legs and feet and that they also fear for her safety: “I mention that my family and I are afraid that Jaime will do us some harm, since he is a very powerful person; his threats are not in vain, he brings guards, even the patrol that responded to my sister’s call left, leaving us unprotected and everyone does what Jaime orders.”
love of politics
Adalina prepares to expand her complaints against Jaime Rodríguez. His situation is delicate because he suffers from low blood pressure, while his left eye has trembled a lot due to the stress he suffers and the complications he has sleeping. “I have to protect my children, they are the most important thing and they had not been able to leave the house until there was a restraining order to feel safe that they can go and come to school.”
Living with Jaime was more difficult every day, particularly because of his narcissistic personality and his excessive details of egocentrism: “We made a nice family, but with great manipulation on his part. He took advantage of my passion for politics and for helping people.”
When Rodríguez Calderón was arrested in March 2022 for alleged “diversion of public resources” and for embezzlement of funds during his presidential campaign, denounced by the current governor Samuel García, Adalina published a video requesting the intervention of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to achieve his release after almost 50 days in preventive detention: “Mr. President, I express my concern, not only for the situation that my family is experiencing, but for all the families of Nuevo León. If this happens with whoever mayor, deputy, governor and former candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, what awaits us citizens who live in our state? I ask you for justice, Mr. President, we trust you.”
A month later, Rodríguez Calderón was exonerated of the accusations. “The reason for my arrest, I always said, was unjust and outside of all legality. Today a federal judge confirms it. I have been acquitted of the alleged electoral crime,” he wrote on his social networks.
Adalina was attracted to Jaime Rodríguez because of his personality and his professional practice, but she warns that she has always dedicated herself to the same thing. “I didn’t get into politics with him; since I was a child I have been in politics with my mother. Not only did it harm me, but also my mother and her years of work, always wanting to affect her because neither the ‘bad mother-in-law’ thing nor the mega-pension was what they said.”
“It’s not revenge”
Adalina Dávalos cries when she remembers the abuse and violence she has suffered with her children, especially her 20-year-old son Alejandro, who always defends her and her sisters. He decided to raise his voice to denounce the violence that was unduly “normalized” for years. They are all now undergoing a therapeutic process to recover and are cared for by psychologists.
“My position will remain the same: a woman who faces violence with courage, who defends her home and her children with dignity and who will no longer allow fear or power to decide for her.”
When consulting The DayJaime Rodríguez Calderón declined to comment. She said she preferred not to say anything so as not to hurt her children and simply noted that it was a “private matter between her and me.”
Adalina sighs and prepares to ratify her complaints against her ex-husband next week. She comments that she prefers her children to see her standing up fighting for what is right. “Today, for myself and my children, I have decided to recover my voice.”
