Tultitlán, Méx., President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo carried out a supervision tour of the Lechería-Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) suburban train, which, she noted, is 92 percent complete and will be in operation by the first quarter of 2026. She explained that the civil work of the track is finished, and three pedestrian bridges that reach the stations remain to be built, as well as signaling and testing work to be completed.
“These new train systems have automatic signaling and require testing time so that they do not have any problems. They have already committed to me that by the first quarter of 2026 it will be ready to be used, we want that during Holy Week people can get on in Buenavista, arrive at AIFA, take their plane to different places in the country and abroad, and that the inhabitants of the municipalities of the state of Mexico in this area can enjoy this beautiful train, which gives very important mobility to the entire metropolitan area of the valley of Mexico,” he said.
The president arrived yesterday at 10:53 a.m. at the Cueyamil train station, located in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood in Tultitlán, and boarded car A1 of train number T029.
From this point it traveled through the Agaves, Teyahualco, Prados Sur, Nextlalpan and Xaltocan stations, until reaching the AIFA terminal. It was a 40-minute journey and the entire stretch from Lechería – in Tultitlán – to AIFA is 23.7 kilometers.
In a message to the media, he pointed out that this is a very important work for the area and connectivity for the AIFA.
“It was started by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and we are finishing it, because it takes a while to complete this work, since there was a lot of social conflict; many neighborhoods asked that additional works be done for their municipalities at the same time that the train was being built, and with reason, these works necessarily require the improvement of the living conditions of the population of the surrounding inhabitants,” he noted.
He added that another issue that was resolved and caused a delay is that the freight train tracks were moved, which went where the passenger tracks currently go. Likewise, he acknowledged that the name that the train will receive is still being evaluated, but it could be Felipe Ángeles.
He stated that this railway system is part of the passenger train rescue project of the Fourth Transformation, abandoned in the neoliberal period.
He added that on Saturday he visited the Mexico-Querétaro train, and incredibly works that were done for passenger trains were neglected and are now recovered with the Maya, Interoceanic, Mexico City-AIFA, AIFA-Pachuca and Mexico-Querétaro trains, as well as all those that will arrive in Nuevo Laredo (Tamualipas), Guadalajara (Jalisco) and Nogales (Sonora).
Sheinbaum Pardo pointed out that in each station of the Lechería-AIFA section there will be greater development and greater well-being, which is ultimately the ultimate goal of the Fourth Transformation government.
The President was accompanied by the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, and the Mexican governor, Delfina Gómez Álvarez.
