Learn to continue building: a new stage for Caña Brava

Learn to continue building: a new stage for Caña Brava

By Rocco Zetola, Agroindustrial Business CEO of Grupo Romero

The recent sale of most agricultural shares of Chira (Caña Brava), an operation that includes its ethanol, sugar and infrastructure plants for energy generation, marks a new stage in the history of a company that has been able to grow, consolidate and generate value in the Peruvian agroindustrial sector. The entry of Ingenio Magdalena, one of the most important sugar groups in Latin America, represents a great opportunity to enhance the international efficiency and projection of this Piuran operation.

This decision does not imply an exit by the Romero Group, but responds to a strategy to revalue assets aimed at promoting growth through new associations. The group maintains participation in Caña Brava because we firmly believe in the future of the project. This new stage, under a collaboration scheme with a leading international group such as Ingenio Magdalena, will allow us to take advantage of both: the local experience and the knowledge of the environment, together with the scale, specialization and global projection of the new partner.

In Caña Brava we have consolidated an efficient, profitable and sustainable operation in almost 10,000 hectares won to the desert and incorporated under a technified irrigation system. The transformation of Eriazas lands into productive fields has been one of the company’s greatest achievements, possible thanks to the commitment and professionalism of its people. This development was a key factor in the decision of Ingenio Magdalena to acquire most assets and join this new stage.

The arrival of Ingenio Magdalena, the second largest sugar group in Latin America, brings a lot in terms of access to markets, technology and operational management. Its experience in large -scale productive integration and export represents an opportunity to further strengthen the operation in Piura. This new stage will bring benefits not only for the company, but also for its workers, the community and the country’s agroindustrial ecosystem.

From Grupo Romero, this operation is part of a broader portfolio strategy: reorder investments to focus on those businesses where we can climb with greater impact. We are still present in national agribusiness through Palmas Group and other strategic initiatives. We continue in Peru, investing and betting on sectors with sustainable growth potential.

It should be noted that the result of this operation is, above all, the product of professional management, with clear objectives and focus on results. We get learning that strengthen our long -term vision. Because every business decision is also an opportunity to learn and continue building.
