The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported in its latest quarterly bulletin that at least 476,600 people are looking for a formal job. Given this scenario, it is important to know what a company is looking for when hiring a professional.
According to Susana Sugano, director of the academic area of Human Factors and Public Management at the UPC Postgraduate School, we must take into account that companies currently not only seek technical knowledge, but now so-called soft skills are also valued.
He indicated that, according to a LinkedIn report on booming jobs, professionals with the following skills are required:
- Problem solving and analytical thinking.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change.
- Emotional intelligence and empathy.
- Transparency and communication skills.
He added that the post-pandemic era has changed the way companies recruit.
“The interviews are no longer only carried out in person, now they are carried out by video calls, and more and more the recording of short videos with questions that interest the company is being included. Also, traditional assessments are being supplemented or replaced“, accurate.
How to face a job interview today?
Due to the changes and the use of technologies, the expert mentioned that it is necessary that you be prepared when applying for a job and be able to carry out the selection process successfully.
In this sense, the specialist recommended the following tips to face a selection process:
- The resume should not be more than two pages. It must include an introduction that describes in a short but attractive way, your main strengths as a professional. Likewise, the trajectory, training and knowledge, as well as the main aptitudes and attitudes for the position. It should be noted that it is important that the resume should be adapted as much as possible to the requirements of the position to which one aspires. Pay attention to format and spelling.
- During the Interview. The applicant must be sure of himself, of why he feels the ideal candidate, this is shown in the fluency during the interview. It must feel like a pleasant conversation. Using appropriate language will help build trust.
- Knowledge of the company. It is also essential that the professional who applies for a certain job is aware of the company to which he is applying, this aspect will be valued by the recruiter.
Social networks and professional profile
On the other hand, Sugano argued that social networks play an important role and LinkedIn is the professional social network par excellence that allows both the candidate and the company to be exposed.
“The increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence for the analysis of candidate information, as well as the use of virtual reality, augmented reality or even the metaverse (where the candidate creates his avatar) will help companies to assess knowledge, skills and attitudes, and be finer in the selection process“, said.
He added that the experience that the candidate has from the first contact with the organization is gaining strength in order to position the company not only as a good place to work, but also as a source of professional and personal development.
