The leader of the native peoples, Clelia Mezua, received a recognition from the Ombudsman’s Office, for her work in favor of human rights, in favor of girls and women in raising awareness of environmental care in the communities Emberá from the province of Darién.
The Secretary General of the Ombudsman’s Office, Carolina García, and the National Director of Specialized Units, Anna Karina Salerno, presented the statuette, and encouraged Mezua to continue with a work that for decades has empowered girls and women by offering workshops to promote the care for the natural heritage of their communities in order to mitigate the actions of climate change, thus promoting the protection of the right to a healthy environment.
Mezua thanked the Ombudsman’s Office and highlighted its management as an allied entity that strengthens the foundations of community work that values women, protects natural resources and strengthens the foundations of the right to a dignified life for all people in the intervened communities with your movement.
