Leader Luis Istúriz is released from prison: he was sentenced along with Edmundo González’s son-in-law

Relatives of Luis Istúriz demand his freedom: he was sentenced along with Rafael Tudares

Luis Istúriz was sentenced on December 3 to 20 years in prison in the same trial hearing in which Rafael Tudares Bracho, lawyer and son-in-law of Edmundo González, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The Penal Forum also confirmed the releases of the director of Fundaredes, Javier Tarazona, the political leader Yandir Loggiodice, Víctor Castillo Vizcaya, the Italian-Venezuelan citizen Mauricio Giampaoli and Willians Antonio Díaz Rolong

This Sunday morning, the political leader Luis Istúriz was released from prison, sentenced on December 3 to 20 years in prison in the same trial hearing as Rafael Tudares Bracho, son-in-law of Edmundo González Urrutia.

The information was confirmed by the Foro Penal on their social networks, where they published a video that shows the lawyer hugging his wife and children.

The lawyer’s release comes after the announcement of a general amnesty law that, according to Delcy Rodríguez, will cover the acts of “political violence” from 1999 to the present. Since last January 8, a process of releases under precautionary measures has been carried out. The Public Ministry has indicated that there are more than 643 released from prison, while organizations such as the Penal Forum place the figure at 310.

In addition to Istúriz, the Penal Forum also confirmed the releases of the director of Fundaredes, Javier Tarazona, the political leader Yandir Loggiodice, Víctor Castillo Vizcaya, the Italian-Venezuelan citizen Mauricio Giampaoli and Willians Antonio Díaz Rolong.

Luis Istúriz, political secretary of Vente Venezuela in Miranda state, was arrested on Saturday, August 24, 2024 by Sebin officials in Guarenas. He spent weeks in isolation until they could see him at the Sebin Helicoide, where he was being held.

Although Luis Istúriz’s file was classified as “State reserve”, family members were able to learn that he was accused of six alleged crimes such as forging public documents, usurpation and instigating disobedience of the laws.

Tudares Bracho, sentenced to 30 years in prison, was released from prison on January 21. Due to this, Istúriz’s relatives introduced before the courts an “extensive effect of the release” of the lawyer.
