The Cuban Lázaro Álvarez got his second success on Thursday in the boxing world championship which is held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and took another step on the road to winning his fourth crown in these games.
The first title of the boxer from Pinar del Río occurred 12 years ago in Baku, when he reigned in the 56-kilogram division, but now the goal is to consecrate himself in the 63.6-kilo category, in which he easily subdued the Ethiopian Mesfin Keralah, according to with a report from the sports portal Hit.

The vueltabajero, also a three-time bronze medalist in Olympic events, captured a unanimous vote from the judges thanks to the clear effectiveness of his blows and a defense that made the always incisive African fail, the publication highlights.
After his initial crown, the Cuban was the best among the 60-kilogram fighters who participated in the universal competitions of Almaty 2013 and Doha 2015. To continue aspiring to fulfill his most immediate goal, he must beat the Brazilian Yuri Dosreis this Saturday.
“As expected, I felt better than in my first fight, but I still have to increase the pace and actions as the competition progresses and the opponents are more demanding,” he told the media.
His performance extended the perfect pace of the Cuban army in the tournament after the first four days were held. Earlier, the rookies Alejandro Claro (48 kg) and Fernando Arzola (+92 kg) had contributed victories six and seven without major setbacks.
Claro dispatched the Armenian Baregham Harutyunyan 4-0 in a duel stopped in the middle round due to an injury to the Cuban’s left browbone. For this reason, we would have to wait for the evolution of that cut ahead of his next presentation against the Mozambican Yassine Issufo next Monday.
Arzola demonstrated on the ring his superiority against the Italian Diego Lenzi, a performance that deserved the favorable vote of all the judges. His next foray is scheduled for Sunday with the Indian Narender Narender as his opponent.
This Friday’s program includes three fights with Cuban leadership, including the debut of two-time Olympic champions Arlen López (80 kg) and Julio César La Cruz (92 kg).
Arlen should not face major setbacks to prevail over the Indian Chaudhary Ashish, while La Cruz would start the path to his sixth throne in planetary battles facing the Bosnian Dzemal Bosnjak.
The incursions of the fighters from the island on the day would be completed by Saidel Horta (57 kg), who will assume his second commitment in the contest, this time with Anthony Joseph from Trinidad in the opposite corner.
