Lawyers will rally in front of Congress for social security

Santo Domingo.- The Bar Association of the Dominican Republic (CARD), called a rally in front of the National Congress on February 27, to reiterate its demand that Law 87-01 on Social Security be complied with and that measures be adopted to improve the conditions of the country’s jurists.

The union’s president, Miguel Surún Hernández, stated that the Card joins other entities that with one voice will demand a stop to what he described as a mafia of Social Security.

The trade unionist warned that the authorities of the Law School they will not stop their fight in favor of the guild members.

He described as unusual that the country’s National Social Security Council, after 20 years of the implementation and approval of Law 87-01, still refuses to put into effect the contributory and subsidized insurance in favor of legal professionals who they work independently.

Activities for International Lawyer’s Day

The Card celebrated this Friday with various acts the “International Day of the Lawyer”, established in the Dominican Republic, by decree 60-86 of January 24, 1986.

The activities included the delivery of a floral offering, a conference “The Inverted Pyramid vs. Adverse Evidence”, given by the jurist Pedro Duarte Canaán and delivery of diploma certificates given by the union through the National School of Lawyers (ENA). .

Surún Hernández affirmed that this day finds the majority of jurists in the Dominican Republic helpless, unemployed, others working in deplorable conditions with low wages, precarious supplies, deficiencies in physical infrastructure, limited access to education, growth opportunities, lack of subsidized health insurance and others.
