Although he was at the River Lounge restaurant at the Myriad Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, Levy insisted that he was in Washington, the capital of the United States.
“I am in the city of Lisbon, precisely in Portugal, where a few hours ago Mr. Simón Levy broadcast live from here in an interview stating that he had been the victim of an attack and that he was in perfect condition living in Washington and well, you can see that we are definitely very far from Washington,” said the lawyer.

The Prosecutor’s Office confirms it
For her part, the prosecutor of Mexico City, Bertha Alcalde, confirmed that the former capital and federal official Simón Levy, detained by Interpol on October 28 in Portugal accused of four crimes, was released under precautionary measures.
Mayor added that Levy remains in Lisbon, and not in Washington, United States, as he himself had declared.
After the controversy over the arrest of the businessman and his statements about alleged persecution by the federal and capital governments, as well as complaints about threats against him, the Mexico City prosecutor clarified in a press conference that the agency was notified by Interpol about the fulfillment of two arrest warrants against Simón Levy in Portugal.
Mayor added that Levy is currently accused of crimes of property damage, threats, crimes against the environment and responsibility of directors responsible for construction, which do not require preventive detention, so it was decided to release him under precautionary measures, reasons for which he was able to carry out telephone links and even have assured that he was in Washington, United States.
“The information we have is that currently (Simón Levy) remains in Portuguese territory and we hope to formalize this extradition request through the corresponding diplomatic channels,” he clarified.
Bertha Alcalde added that Simón Levy seeks protection from the Portuguese government, based on the dual nationality he allegedly possesses.
In the last few hours, Levy has contradicted the versions about his arrest and his stay in Portugal, however, an interview he gave to journalist Azucena Uresti showed him in a hotel in Lisbon this Thursday.
Who is Simon Levy?
Levy was born in Mexico City on March 15, 1979. At an early age he entered the business and political spheres, holding positions in the CDMX and Federal governments.
He has a degree in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
During the administration of Miguel Ángel Mancera as head of the capital’s government, Levy served as director of ProCDMX between 2012 and 2018.
He established the first Mexican company in Beijing, and launched the positioning campaign for the Aeroméxico flight in China to export more than 10 products to that country.
He collaborated for the World Bank where he participated in the Global Corporate Governance Forum, organized by the International Institute of Corporate Governance at Yale University.
He has been a representative of the Advisory Council of the Commercial Practices Unit of the Ministry of Economy of Mexico.
Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appointed him as Undersecretary of Planning and Tourism Policy in the Federal government, however, he resigned after a few months.
