Edmundo González Urrutia’s lawyer assured that the opposition presidential candidate remains safe and firm in his convictions
Jose Vicente Harolawyer for opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, went to the headquarters of the Prosecutor’s Office in Caracas on Wednesday, September 4, to present a document justifying why the ambassador did not attend the appearances before the Public Ministry in the framework of the investigations that this body is carrying out following the elections of July 28.
Haro said the document explains the reasons “from a constitutional point of view, from a legal point of view and from the point of view of the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure, why González Urrutia has not appeared.”
Likewise, he pointed out that the presidential candidate is also in a “degree of defenselessness” because crimes have already been prequalified against him, where “criminal acts are being attributed to him as if they were crimes.” In addition, the Public Ministry will be called upon to resume due compliance with the laws and not “try to judicialize or criminalize acts” that are political and that should be debated in that field.
Attorney José Vicente Haro explained that Edmundo González Urrutia is safe and steadfast, with the desire to continue fighting to defend his rights and those of Venezuelans.

Opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia ruled out the possibility of requesting political asylum or being a guest in one of the embassies accredited in the country, after learning of the arrest warrant against him. This was stated by his lawyer José Vicente Haro on the morning of Tuesday, September 3rd.
“In no way is there, and this is important to clarify, the family informs me that in no way is there an asylum request by Mr. Edmundo González Urrutia to any duly accredited embassy in Venezuela. Asylum has not been requested, nor has a request been made to be a guest in an embassy. That is an issue that has not been raised,” the lawyer stressed to the media.
Earlier, in an interview with W Radio, Haro said that this scenario was not planned or considered, a very brave decision. His greatest desire is to be close to the Venezuelans and to reciprocate the support they have given him.

The opposition candidate’s wife, Mercedes González, is in her home to “attend” to the authorities in case a raid occurs, the lawyer explained. “Our work here will be dedicated to receiving the authorities when they see fit to visit the residence to carry out what, as we understand from the publications that have been made on social networks, is an arrest warrant for Edmundo González.”
The First Special Anti-Terrorist Court issued an arrest warrant against González Urrutia on the night of Monday, September 2, and commissioned the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) to carry it out.
This follows a request from the Prosecutor’s Office, signed by assistant prosecutor Luis Ernesto Dueñez Reyes, who had already issued three subpoenas in the framework of the investigation into the website resultadosconvzla.com and the presidential election voting records posted there, which the authorities describe as “forged.”
According to the 58th National Prosecutor’s Office, which is handling the case, the diplomat allegedly committed crimes of usurpation of functions, forgery of public documents, instigation to disobedience of laws, conspiracy, sabotage to damage systems and association.
