After Pope Francis approved the expulsion of 10 members of the Sodalitium of Christian Life, among them former archbishop of Piura and Tumbes, José Antonio Eguren Anselmi, his lawyer Percy García Cavero, spoke on the matter.
Through his Facebook account, García Cavero questioned that the special commission did not agree to interview defense witnesses regarding the accusatory facts against the 10 members of the Sodalicio, among them Monsignor Eguren Anselmi.

“They only (accepted) prosecution witnesses. In fact, I asked to be interviewed by the commission to give the information I had and they denied me the interview. “Investigation only with prosecution witnesses?” he wrote on his social network.
In addition, he said that the investigator Jordi Bertomeu, before assuming the Pope’s assignment, met with Pedro Salinas, convicted of defaming Monsignor José Eguren. “Those meetings, with beers involved, were for him to give his version about the Sodalicio and its members. Objective researcher?” he highlighted.
He assured that Monsignor Eguren Anselmi was never told what the charges against him were and he had an interview with the commission without knowing what he was accused of. “He was also not allowed to be accompanied by a civil or canonical lawyer,” said the lawyer.
