Given the high cost of fuel, lawyer Miguel Antonio Bernal has proposed an initiative through his Twitter account, which consists of increasing the tax on alcoholic beverages in the country and thus reducing the fuel tax.

In the opinion of the jurist, Panamanians are paying an extremely high tax on fuel. “In other countries, given the situation due to the increase in fuel prices, the governments have taken actions such as a halt to the tax and a mechanism to avoid increases, but the government has not taken any concrete action to alleviate this situation,” he mentioned.

He stated that every Friday consumers are being punished. “Fuel today has become a basic necessity product. 200,000 cars come daily from West Panama to the capital city,” she said.

Bernal is aware that this initiative will cause inconvenience to some citizens, mainly “alcoholics anonymous and public alcoholics”, but he is convinced that this measure would serve to reduce the cost of gasoline that has hit the pockets of thousands of Panamanians. .
