Law would prohibit the use of uniforms for domestic workers

oblige the domestic workers to use uniforms in public and private places would be a sanctioned practice in the country. This is how a bill presented in the Senate by the representative of the province of Santiago Rodríguez, Casimiro Antonio Marte Familia.

If the project is approved, the employers that force the domestic workers to use uniforms to enter public and private places, such as restaurants, meeting rooms, shopping malls, stores, clubs and beauty salons, they would pay fines between 5 to 15 minimum wages.

The Ministry of Labor would be the body in charge of imposing this fine.

While venue owners who require the use of uniforms Domestic workers will receive penalties of 20 to 100 minimum wages, or even the temporary closure of the establishment, sanctions that would be imposed by the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer), explains the project presented on June 24.

According to Senator Marte Familia, this initiative is based on the decent work of domestic workers established in the Convention of the International Labor Organization (ILO), and in the Constitution of the Republic, which establishes that: “The State recognizes housework as an economic activity that creates added value and produces wealth and social welfare, for which it is incorporated into the formulation and execution of public policies”.
