Law students report threats for protesting against judicial reform

“Due to the above, we made the decision to express our concern,” they stressed.

Through social media, former public officials and authorities have expressed their solidarity with people who have reported threats and pressure.

“Judicial Branch 16 GTO expresses its total rejection of the actions of harassment and persecution towards the members of the Organizing Committee of the Faculty of Law of the UNAM, who participate in the defense of the rule of law,” the judicial body published on its official Facebook account.

“My solidarity and support goes out to the students of the UNAM Faculty of Law for the threats that the authoritarian onslaught has launched against them,” Lorenzo Córdova, former president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), shared on X.

In addition to the students, some opposition legislators have also denounced alleged threats, pressure and bribery attempts for taking a stand against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s judicial reform.

According to the national leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés, some state prosecutors have opened investigation files against senators from his party, the PRI and the Citizen Movement to pressure them.
