Law of domain extinction must be approved as soon as possible, says Paliza

Santo Domingo.– The draft law on trials of domain extinction for civil forfeiture of illicit assets must be approved as soon as possible.

This was stated this Monday by the administrative minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, after participating in the conference “Pandemic Times between Hurricanes and Earthquakes”held at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (Unphu).

“The domain extinction law must be approved as soon as possible and, of course, covering all the elements that are important to touch and study in the law,” indicated the president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), assuring that they are going to take out , pass and promote such legislation.

After explaining that from the government, as the ruling party that they are, they have promoted the regulation all the time, but that the opposition parties, on the other hand, do not support it like they do, he said that President Luis Abinader has expressed himself in favor of the piece publicly on different occasions, including during his visit to the National Congress on February 27, when he reported to the country.

The former senator from Puerto Plata took the opportunity to call on the political parties to unite and find a way to give the Dominican Republic an important tool, which is needed, he said. He also added that the legislation is demanded by international organizations, as well as by other countries in the world.

The domain forfeiture law must be approved, it must be approved as soon as possible and of course, covering all the elements that are important to touch on and study in the law, but we are going to pass that law, we are going to approve that law and we are going to to boost.

Lawmakers clash over legislation

The bicameral commission in charge of the bill on forfeiture lawsuits was involved in a heated debate last week, to the extent that some of its members walked out of the meeting before it concluded.

The discussion, which took place after meeting in the Pedro Francisco Bonó room of the Senate to conclude the pending work, was led by legislators from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), and to a lesser extent, Fuerza del Pueblo joined (FP).

The discrepancy arose over the issue of tax avoidance and retroactivity.
