On August 17, 2023, dancer Laura Villamil suffered a serious accident during a show at the renowned Andrés Carne de Res restaurant, leaving an indelible mark on her life and that of her loved ones. Since then, the artist has remained hospitalized in a medical center in Bogotá, where she has undergone multiple surgeries and has faced an arduous recovery process after suffering burns on 80% of her body.

Santiago Villamil, Laura’s brother, recently shared updates on his sister’s health status, revealing a positive, although still critical, evolution.
In an interview with the magazine WeekSantiago commented that the doctors had reduced Laura’s sedation and were giving her medications to treat the serious injuries that affected her. However, the road to recovery remains challenging.
Laura Villamil now has a complication in her blood
Despite the improvement in her general condition, Laura has contracted three bacteria, only one of which has been eradicated. “The doctors have told us that, due to his injuries, he is very vulnerable to infections,” Santiago explained. Additionally, Laura faces a new complication, but this time in her blood.
«She has a fungus in her blood, and she has several bacteria. They were already able to combat one, but he has three more bacteria and the fungus in his blood,” he commented.
Regarding her emotional well-being, the young woman has experienced moments of sadness when confronting the reality of her injuries and the state of her body. “She is very sensitive because she saw her injuries,” said her brother, highlighting that they are working on her mental health to help her cope with this difficult moment. «She has assimilated it very well, she feels very uncomfortable. He saw how she is and all the devices she has on her body. But hey, hoping that everything can turn out well,” he added.
The treatment that Laura Villamil is receiving includes surgical interventions, specifically skin grafts, which will be crucial for her long-term recovery. Laura’s family continues to be hopeful and working to offer her the emotional and physical support she needs during this difficult stage of her life.
