The actress was recognized in Asturias for her contribution to Ibero-American culture and took advantage of the ceremony to send a message of support to the Cuban people.
MADRID, Spain.- Cuban actress Laura Ramos dedicated the ASICOM-University of Oviedo Ibero-American Award “to those who suffer under the dictatorship” in Cuba. The recognition It was delivered this week during a gala held in the Auditorium of the Historical Building of the University of Oviedo, in Asturias, Spain.
These awards, promoted by the Ibero-American Communication Association (ASICOM) and the University of Oviedo, distinguish personalities and entities that contribute significantly to the strengthening of cultural, historical and social ties between the peoples of Ibero-America.
Visibly moved, Ramos dedicated the award to her country and condemned the repression on the island. “I dedicate the award to Cuba, to my people, to those who have long suffered from injustice, helplessness, misery, the dictatorship of a government that censors artists and has bankrupted a wonderful country,” she declared during her speech.
The interpreter also shared a message of gratitude on her Instagram account after receiving the award: “A couple of days ago I received the ‘Ibero-American 2025’ Award given by ASICOM in collaboration with the University of Oviedo, Interprotección, EGEDA and other Ibero-American entities. This award is granted every year to people and institutions that have stood out in their work within the Ibero-American context, helping with their task of building and rebuilding this historic region.
I am tremendously grateful and receive it with humility and deep honor. It was an exciting ceremony, plus receiving it in that beautiful auditorium of the University of Oviedo with more than 400 years of history and surrounded by such illustrious award winners, with bagpipe music accompanying, well, I had to stop myself from crying.”
His message, broadcast from a European institutional setting and amplified through his social networks, joins the voices of Cuban artists in exile who denounce censorship and the lack of freedoms on the Island.
Laura Ramos, 47 years old, is remembered in Cuba for her participation in the series Four seasons in Havana and the films Amanda’s propheciesto and Operation Fangio. In 2022, was honored with the Latin Excellence Award in Spainin recognition of his outstanding professional career and artistic achievements.
On Spanish television he is a recognized face, especially for his leading roles in series such as The Farads and Intervías. For her character of Gladys in Intervías was nominated for Best Drama Actress at the Almería International Film Festival (FICAL) last November.
