The economist and former candidate for the Municipality of Montevideo -in the 2020 elections-, Laura Raffo, announced this Monday that she will not compete in the 2025 departmental elections, and assured that, thanks to her and her team, the National Party has ” positioned as a firm, responsible and positive opposition to the departmental government”.

“I am convinced that, with a clear vision and a strategic approach, we can transform Montevideo into a city that inspires its citizens and visitors. An apartment that reflects our rich culture and history, in which public spaces are welcoming and accessible, where innovation, education, and community development are encouraged, and where the quality of life of its inhabitants is a priority, as is the case in departments governed by the National Party”, says the letter published on their social networks.

And she announced that she will not run as a candidate for the IMM: “In May 2025 the citizens of Montevideo will go to the polls to elect a new mayor. I am deeply grateful that the National Party has considered my name to compete for such an important elective position. With the responsibility that corresponds to such lofty challenges and two years in advance, I request that the names of other colleagues be considered for the departmental elections who have shown great commitment and dedication to Montevideo. At the same time, I present my resignation as President of the Department and I am committed to carry out the period of
transition that the party deems appropriate.

Does Raffo seek to position himself as a presidential candidate?

The former television panelist praised her work team and recommended these people to the PN “to form a first-level work group in Montevideo that deepens the political, territorial and technical work carried out since 2020. They will have my full support for what they deem necessary.”

And he ended up announcing that he would be working on his image for a national project: “As is public knowledge, I am forming a political space of national scope that represents the values and ideals that we share as a party”.

“This means that I will continue working for Montevideo, as well as for the other departments of our country with the conviction that the National Party united is the best tool to bring greater prosperity and well-being to our compatriots”, concluded Raffo.
