The director and ballet teacher in Cuba, Laura Alonsodeserving of the National Dance Award in 2021, from today forms the jury of the Varna International Ballet Competition, in Bulgaria, considered the oldest and most prestigious in the world.
According to state report Latin Press (PL), during the meeting, which runs until July 1, Alonso will give a master class on the technique of the Cuban School of Ballet, influenced by the experience and imprint of Alicia, Fernando and Alberto Alonso.
In the event, cataloged as the Olympics of this discipline, the maîtres Diana White and Vladimir Angelov, from the United States, will also take part; Kristina Crigorova, from Italy; Emanuel Abruzo, from Argentina, and several experts based in the Balkan country.
According to PL, this dance contest for solo dancers has existed since 1964 and traditionally takes place every two years with outdoor performances. It receives the best young hopefuls in this style from around thirty nations, who compete in three categories: junior, adult and senior.
The organizers of the event, quoted by PL, calculate that more than 2,500 dancers from 40 states have passed through there.
Alonso is the daughter and heiress of Alicia and Fernando Alonso, and last year she deserved the award granted by the National Council of Performing Arts for her career as a teacher at the Higher Institute of Art and president of the Dance Association for the Americas.
