MIAMI, United States. — More political leaders from organizations and political parties that are members of the Union of Latin American Parties (UPLA) have sponsored Cuban political prisoners to publicize their cases internationally and ask for their release.
The Honduran deputy Johana Bermúdez sponsors the Cuban political prisoner Saily Navarro Rodríguez and will lead the campaign for her release.
“Today, I want to be the voice and demand the freedom of Saily Navarro Rodríguez, who has been in prison since July 12, 2021 and was sentenced to eight years in prison,” Bermúdez said in social networks.
From Panama, the deputy Ana Giselle Rosas, Secretary of the Democratic Change Women, sponsors the 11J protester Mailene Nogueras Santiesteban.
“I present to you Mailene Nogueras Santiesteban, imprisoned since July 17, 2021. Sentenced to six years and six months. Movement of Opponents for a new Republic. El Guatao Prison. Havana. We ask for freedom for her and the 136 women who are being detained for opposing the Cuban dictatorship. I raise my voice for those who don’t have a voice today.” Rosas wrote on his Twitter account. The campaign of patronage of women political leaders in the region is supported by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC), a collation of opposition organizations “that asks the democratic countries that are related to the Castro regime to demand the immediate freedom of these Cuban political prisoners”.
Julián Obiglio, president of the UPLA, also supported this sponsorship.
“From UPLA we maintain our commitment to fight for freedom. Together we are stronger!”, She assured.
The UPLA has members in 21 countries in the region and has announced that it will announce the name of one Latin American godmother per day until the more than 130 Cuban political prisoners have a woman who promotes and defends their cases.
