Latin American Federation of Prosecutors rejects dismissal of Silvana Carrión of the Lava Jato case

The Latin American Federation of Prosecutors (FLF) issued a statement in which it expresses its concern for the dismissal of the Lava Jato case, Silvana Carrión Ordinolaand alerts on a pattern of actions that have been affecting the independence of anti -corruption organisms in the region.

“In line with its fundamental mission of defending judicial and fiscal independence, and to strengthen the fight against corruption in the region, the FLF manifests its most energetic concern about the recent events that occurred in the Republic of Peru, which constitute a serious decline in the guarantee of independence of the technical organs specialized in the anti -corruption struggle (ACAS),” reads the statement.

“The arbitrary and unjustified cessation of the attuing ad hoc Silvana Carrión, a key figure in the investigations of the Lava Jato case, who had achieved the recovery of more than 310 million soles for the Peruvian State, is not an isolated incident. On the contrary, it is part of a worrying regional pattern where the anti -corruption agencies (ACAS) and its members are subjected to pressures, harassment and unjust removal of groups of political and economic power that seek to avoid justice, “they add.

In the document, the FLP urges the Peruvian government to rectify this measure and calls on the international community, especially the UN and the OECD, to remain vigilant on the consequences that these acts would have for the rule of law in our country and the fight against corruption.

Dismissed

As is known, the State Attorney General (PGE) concluded the designation of Silvana Carrión as an ad hoc attorney for the Lava Jato case, who has held that position for five years.

The PGE Board of Directors, headed by Attorney General María Caruajulca, made that decision yesterday in extraordinary session.

Carrión held the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga for his departure, and the Minister of Justice, Juan José Santiváñez.

“How many orders the mayor has made to stop me from the position. And here there is something well serious: the popular renewal political group, which Mr. López Aliaga is its president, is investigated in one of the criminal cases that we have in charge of campaign financing, a silver that received from Odebrecht and OAS when it was national solidarity,” he told the press.

He indicated that on September 25 the hearing is scheduled where his order will be evaluated for popular renewal to be included as the third responsible civil and thus pay civil reparation.

The attorney, in that line, said that López Aliaga had insisted with her separation and was not paid until Santiváñez reached the portfolio of justice, on August 23.
