Latin American data center market will reach investment of US$ 9,110 million by 2027, according to Arizton

Due to the growth of connectivity by as well as the expansion of hyperscale operators, Latin America saw investments of US$6.03 billion in data centers last year and would reach US$9.11 billion in 2027, according to the Arizton report.

The company indicated that data center operators’ goals to work with renewable energy sources in their facilities have increased considerably since 2020, “with the acquisition of modern infrastructure solutions and renewable energy to power operations”.

Gustavo Pérez, Director of Sales for Named Accounts at Vertiv Latin America, stated that the data center industry faced an increase in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic driven by the accelerated adoption of cloud services, the need for more secure IT environments and the transition to teleworking models.

According to estimates by the consulting firm Gartner, spending on data center systems in the world will reach US$226 billion by 2022, 4.7% more than the previous year. Overall, global IT investment will grow 5.1% over the same year, to reach $4.5 million.

Transformation for a post-pandemic world

The industry is already working on the energy efficiency of data centers, whose energy consumption was between 200 and 250 TWh in 2020 (almost 1% of world consumption), specified the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Likewise, some organizations have been thinking of energy strategies that use a digital solution, which adjusts energy consumption to 100% renewable energy and can operate with renewable sources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

These hybrid and distributed power systems, which can provide both AC and DC power, eventually allow data centers to operate carbon-free”, explained the Vertiv executive.

He added that another technology that will improve efficiency is lithium-ion batteries, used for backup.
