Six of the nine political parties and associations belonging to Morena and allied parties that make up the qualified majority in the Congress of Mexico City, supported the head of government, Martí Batres, not only with cheers, but with an accompaniment from his entrance to the Donceles y Allende building, to his seat at the board of directors.

The 46 deputies of the ruling party, including Luis Chávez, Silvia Sánchez Barrios and Nora Arias, who entered through the PAN, PRI and PRD, respectively and joined the Morena bench on September 1, placed photographs of Martí Batres on their respective seats, with the legend “The 4T delivered,” highlighting some of the president’s achievements.

The main complaints came from the PRI, Movimiento Ciudadano and the PAN, who criticized the security figures, as well as the use of the police and the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office against social organizations and opposition politicians, to which Batres responded with historical facts.

“In this regard, what I can tell you is that in Mexico City there will never be a repression like that of the peasants of Atenco or against the teachers who protested against the educational reform of the previous six-year term. We will never send social leaders to high security prisons,” said the head of government, looking at the opposition deputies.

PAN deputy Andrés Atayde criticized that the health systems in Mexico City are far from being like those in Denmark, as promised by President López Obrador, to which Batres replied that this federal administration closed the door to corruption and the privatization of services, unlike Seguro Popular – which operated during the PAN governments.

“I am very pleased to tell you that now with IMSS-Bienestar, health services are universalized and become free, universal and free of charge as in Denmark. The question is answered,” he said.

The head of government took advantage of the forum to give his support to the Judicial Reform, recently approved by the federal Congress and published by the federal executive in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

“There has been a debate about whether members of the Judiciary should be elected by vote and the conservatives have been against it. It is not strange, they have always been against universal, direct and secret voting and the advancement of voting has always been a progressive advance, it means more power to the people, the more the popular vote is expanded,” he stressed.

Although there was an exchange of positions between opposition deputies and Martí Batres, there were no banners, shouts or whistles, since there was a prior agreement with the Political Coordination Board of the local Congress so that this would not happen.

He stressed that the members of the cabinet who will take over the reins of the local administration on October 5 attended the Mexico City Congress as special guests, however, the absence of the elected head of government, Clara Brugada, was notable.
