Latam suspends Lima - Orlando route due to airport fee collection

LATAM Airlines Peru announced the suspension of the Lima–Orlando international route (USA). As you remember, a few days ago, the Lima-Havana route was canceled (Cuba). This, as a direct consequence of the new collection of the Unified Airport Use Fee (TUUA) for Transfer, which the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP) will implement starting October 27 at the Jorge Chávez International Airport.

In a statement released this Wednesday, the company explained that the decision responds to a significant economic impact derived from the new airport charge, which amounts to 12.67 US dollars per leg, that is, 25.34 dollars for a round trip with connection. This amount, according to the company, makes the operation more expensive and reduces the competitiveness of the Lima airport as a regional hub compared to other airports in Latin America.

“The conditions are not favorable to start a new route, considering the collection of the Transfer TUUA that the LAP concessionaire announced that it will begin to collect from next October 27,” the statement says.

The airline specified that, in the case of the Lima-Havana route, approximately 70% of passengers travel on an international connection, which aggravates the impact of this rate and places Jorge Chávez Airport at a competitive disadvantage compared to other regional connection centers that do not apply this type of charges.

For its part, in the case of Lima–Orlando, the start of operations – initially scheduled for November 30 – will also be suspended due to the same reason. LATAM indicated that 50% of passengers on this route travel in connection, so the new charge makes trips more expensive and affects profitability.

Passengers will receive solutions and refund options

LATAM reported that passengers who have purchased tickets to travel between October 26 and November 30, 2025 on these routes will be notified directly with a travel solution that connects through other hubs in the LATAM group network.

Likewise, those who do not agree with the modifications may opt, at no additional cost, for one of the following alternatives, available in the “My Trips” section of the airline’s website:

  • Date change in the same cabin, depending on availability.
  • Change of flight or route in the same cabin, using other hubs or choosing Miami as an alternative to Orlando.
  • Full refund of the ticket and optional services (ancillaries).

If passengers do not choose any option before the flight departure, the refund will be processed automatically within 7 business days for credit card payments or 20 business days for other methods. If the purchase was made through a travel agency, the procedure must be managed through the same channel.
