Latam Airlines Peru announced on Tuesday the indefinite suspension of its flights from and from Jauja airport, located in the Junín region, due to the “poor state” of the landing floor, which makes it impossible to guarantee safe operations for passengers.
The decision was officially communicated by a statement, in which the airline explained that the progressive deterioration of the track, without comprehensive repairs in the last eight years, has led to this measure.
“Unfortunately, throughout these 8 years of operation, we have verified progressive deterioration on the landing floor, which not to be repaired in an integral and efficient way, does not offer the necessary conditions to guarantee safe operation in this airport”the company said in its statement.
The airline expressed its desire to resume flights as soon as the necessary repairs are carried out and called on the competent authorities, including Corpac, an airport operator, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, to act immediately.
“We invoke the competent authorities, both to the Corpac company, operator of the Jauja Airport, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, to be carried out within the most immediate period, the comprehensive reparation necessary on this landing floor that allows us to resume the programming of flights to this town, thus connecting the entire center of Peru by air ”Latam added.
Regarding the affected passengers, the airline reported that flexibility measures have been implemented. Travelers who already had passages bought will be able to make changes of origin or destination to nearby airports at no additional cost, or request the return of their money without penalties.
