Latam and JetSmart report normality in their flights, amid delays and cancellations due to Airbus software

Despite the contingency due to the Airbus software, the two airlines maintain stability while Avianca deploys passenger services.

Amid the reported delays and cancellations for the Airbus fleet software update, Latam Airlines Colombia assured that its operations continue normally.

The company reported that it had an impact on a round trip flight Bogotá – San Andrés – Bogotá this Saturday.

For its part, JetSmart reported that the technical update requested by Airbus and the European Aviation Safety Agency progresses as planned.

The airline indicated that its operations remain normal and without impact on itineraries.

The company assured that the process is carried out within the times defined by the authorities and the manufacturer, and that it will continue to monitor the situation.

According to the official website of the El Dorado airporton Saturday morning at least 15 flights were canceled in cities like Cali, Medellín, Pasto and Cartagena.

Internationally, the most affected destinations were Miami, Caracas, Panama City and New York.

Avianca reported that, given the operational adjustments in its fleet A320launched a care scheme to offer alternatives to affected travelers.

The airline began offering accommodations on its own flights and routes operated by allied airlines.

For those who cannot take advantage of these options, the company defined two additional mechanisms:

Reschedule the date of the flight without paying any penalty or fare difference”, depending on availability, to travel up to 180 days after the original itinerary.

“Request the refund of unused routes”, a procedure possible on the web, Contact Center, direct points of sale or travel agencies.

The airline asked users to review the communications sent to the email associated with the reservation and verify the status of the flights on official channels.

Closing of sales and operational adjustments

Avianca recalled that it closed sales for trips until December 8 to facilitate the rearrangement of those who already have tickets issued.

Airbus requirement and impact on operation

The situation arose after Airbus notify that a significant portion of the family’s aircraft A320 requires an urgent software update.

At Avianca, the training affected more than 70% of the A320 fleet and will generate adjustments in the operation during the next ten days.

The company maintains dedicated staff to execute the modifications and restore normality as soon as possible.
