Latam Airlines Peru announced the cancellation of the Lima – Havana operation, after more than 23 months of having this route and having transported nearly 110,000 passengers.
According to the company, this measure is necessary due to the “financial performance of the route, which is aggravated by the upcoming collection of the Unified Airport Use Fee (TUUA) for Transfers.”
“This additional rate, which the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP) intends to apply at the end of this month, will directly impact routes that largely depend on passengers in international connection, as is the case of Lima-Havana, whose approximately 70% of travelers are transfer passengers,” the company indicated.
This new scenario, as specified, makes the operation of the route unsustainable in the face of regional competition, since many connecting passengers would opt for other regional hubs that do not impose this type of charges.
“For all passengers who have flights from the cancellation date onwards, they will be able to opt for alternatives such as advance travel or a full refund of the ticket, and for passengers who wish to maintain their itinerary, they will be contacted to offer protection alternatives with other operators. We reinforce our commitment to finding solutions for each of our affected passengers,” he indicated.
