The president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, traveled this Sunday to New York, where he will participate in the United Nations General Assembly, the last of his term that ends in August 2023.
Abdo Benítez traveled to that US city accompanied by the first lady, Silvana López Moreira, reported sources from the Paraguayan Presidency, who did not provide further details.
In statements to journalists, the Paraguayan leader anticipated on Friday that during his “last presentation to the UN” he will address issues “of interest to the world,” among which he mentioned the post-pandemic economic recovery process and the head-on fight against organized crime and against terrorism.
He will also refer to the war between Russia and Ukraine and how it impacts inflation not only in Europe, but also in Paraguay, said Abdo Benítez, who indicated that his country will accompany the actions in favor of a dialogue that allows the return of peace. .
Confirming the participation of the Paraguayan leader in the 77th session of the General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julio César Arriola, detailed last Tuesday that Abdo Benítez will also hold bilateral meetings with his Guatemalan counterpart, Alejandro Giammattei, and with the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres.
The intervention of the Paraguayan president is scheduled for September 20.
Later, he will travel to Miami, where he will speak on Friday, September 23, on free markets and democracy at an event organized by the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom at Florida International University. EFE
