Las Bambas denounces a new blockade of the South Road Corridor in Chumbivilcas

mining denounced a new blockade in the South Road Corridor, 100 kilometers from its operation, by four communities in the district of Ccapacmarca, in the province of Chumbivilcas, Cusco, which obstructs the transportation of people, supplies and copper concentrate.

On January 17, a meeting called by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) was held with these four communities.

“Unfortunately, in said meeting these communities rejected the agreements established on December 30, 2021 with the rest of the Chumbivilcas communities, which had blocked the national road for more than 30 consecutive days, forcing the stoppage of production for around two weeks”, the company said in a statement.

The mining operation has experienced intermittent blockades for 421 days from 2016 to 2021. Likewise, Las Bambas represents more than 75% of Apurimac’s GDP and 1% of national GDP.

“Las Bambas reiterates its commitment to continue with a realistic, constructive dialogue, respectful of the current legal framework and free from threats and forceful measures that compromise the safety of people, goods and products; as well as the sustainability of the business”, he pointed out.
